What exactly does a "post-growth city" mean? And what might neighborhoods and cities look like in a post-growth society? These questions were at the center of the workshop.
The goal was to formulate wishes and demands for different areas of life in order to develop a vision for a city where a good life is possible for everyone.
For many participants, the term “post-growth” was new at first. But the discussions quickly showed that it’s about a different understanding of growth — one that focuses less on material consumption and more on genuine needs. Topics like healthy relationships, a thriving environment, and social communities were central to the participants. They collectively concluded that post-growth could also mean growing together: through exchange, negotiation, and mutual appreciation.

These ideas were then directly applied to the city. What is needed for our living spaces to foster such communities? The participants’ answers were diverse: community gardens, swap cabinets, free-sharing boxes, repair cafés, and self-managed spaces that bring people together without pressuring them to consume.
There was an exchange about where such places already exist in Dresden and what is needed to expand, make visible, and further develop these structures.

The insights from the workshop were displayed throughout the entire festival weekend and could be supplemented by everyone with their needs, wishes, and ideas. They then served as the basis for a final panel discussion, to which city council members from Dresden were also invited. This allowed participants to actively engage during the festival and directly address their demands to policymakers.
